Using an avatar (remotely controlled robot)
Sports day with citizen participation
A total of 15 groups participated, ranging from junior high school students to seniors.
There are 5 works (2 universities, 1 manufacturer) participating with self-made robots, and 10 works using robots provided by NPOs or the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR). In terms of competitors, the competition was full of diversity, with 7 companies, 3 universities, and 5 families, and the ages ranged from elementary school students (9 years old) to seniors (82 years old).
Held: November 19, 2023 (Sunday) 13:00-15:30
Location: Keihanna Plaza in front of the sundial
(1-7 Hikarudai, Seika-cho, Soraku-gun, Kyoto Prefecture)
By creating a Wi-Fi network around the sundial and connecting it to the Internet using Starlink, we created an environment where avatars can be sent and received from all over the world.

In the 2023 pre-tournament, we used Avatar Formula 3 specification avatars.
In line with the advancement of technology and the aspects of life targeted for competition, I am planning to decide on the specifications for Avatar Formula 2 and Avatar Formula 1.
The 2023 pre-tournament will be a relatively easy level 1 competition, The specifications of the avatar are as follows: Avatar Formula 3. It doesn’t matter if you made it yourself or purchased it. Commercially available avatars made for office use generally have small wheels and are difficult to drive on uneven surfaces, and it has been revealed that the commercially available avatar that can be used in pre-tournaments is Double 3.
Avatar Formula 3 specifications
- Size: Width 60cm or less, height 150cm or less (length 120cm or less)
- Weight: 35kg or less
- Speed: less than 6 kilometers per hour
- Collision energy: 14J or less
- Capable of two-way video communication with the operator via mobile phone network, etc.
- The internet connection provided by the council is Starlink. Connection with avatar is Wi-Fi (IP address is assigned by DHCP)
– There are no sharp protrusions that could pose a hazard to pedestrians.
– If communication with monitoring/competitor is delayed for a certain period of time, Or, in the event of an emergency such as a loss of communication, the robot must be able to stop automatically.
– Be able to immediately recognize the occurrence of a traffic accident if it occurs.
– Have accident insurance
Participation in competitions on a works-by-works basis, similar to F1 for automobiles
In order to spread the use of avatar operations and share not only the fun of creating them, but also the fun of controlling them,
Similar to the F1 car race, participants will be asked to participate in works units
consisting of avatar providers and competitors.
If you are unable to construct the works yourself, the competition can arrange this for you.
The contestants are those who passed the avatar pilot license test/preliminary meeting held by our NPO on October 29th.
For self-made or purchased avatars, the avatars must have been approved by the Avatar Pilot License Examination and Preliminaries.
Sports venue seen from the sky
The approximately 60m x 80m sunclockwise area of Keihanna Co., Ltd.’s premises has been turned into a sports field.
The yellow line is the boundary with the prefectural road, with the north side being private property of Keihanna Co., Ltd. and the south side being the prefectural road. The sidewalk specifications are the same on the north and south sides of the boundary. For this reason, it is ideal as a place for technical verification when driving on prefectural roads in the future.
